Buprenorphine Action

Buprenorphine works by partially blocking  the opioid receptor in the brain called the mu receptor. This keeps opioid drugs from binding by competing with them or

displacing them. It takes away the crave for opioid and prevents withdraw.

As the brain chemistry returns closer to normal, a gradual taper can be performed

eventually achieving a no-drug, normal state.
